Evolution vs. Tripartite Man

Foundations of Behavioral Neuroscience relies heavily on an evolutionary approach to the development of humans.  According to Carlson (2014), our ancestors rose to an upright bipedalism posture to enable them to walk longer distances with greater ease and to see for longer distances.  This also permitted functional tasks such as being able carry items and improved linguistic skills as they learned to communicate with each other.  As they evolved, they developed a need for a larger brain and also a larger skull.  The upright nature of the human limits the size of a woman’s birth canal which makes a baby’s skull and brain as large as it can be.  Instead of producing a large brain capable of performing these functions at birth, evolution produces a brain capable of learning through a slower process of maturation (Carlson, 2014).
Scriptures promote the idea that God created man with three basic parts: body, soul, and spirit (Tripartite Man, 2002).   His body was formed from the dust of the ear, his spirit was produced by God’s breath into the man, and he became a living soul.  The human spirit is also made up of three parts: the conscience, fellowship, and intuition.  These combine to allow us to contact God, worship God, to receive God, and to contain God where we prepare a dwelling place for Him.  A person’s soul is designed to be a direct reflection and expression of the living God.  As we mature, our soul is being transformed into the image of God by learning to deny our natural mind, will, and emotions.  We must also be purified through receiving God and renewing our minds.  The body’s sole function is simply to be a dwelling place for our soul and our spirit.  To provide a functional existence for our soul and our spirit (Tripartite Man, 2002).
To follow evolution’s design for living one would have to believe that once a physical death occurs, man simply ceases to exist since there is no need for spiritual existence.  Tripartite Man’s view of death would be that once the body has no longer proven to be useful it dies.  The soul and the spirit are then reunited with God, or separated from Him.
